Learning about: Place Value

(LO: I can demonstrate my knowledge of Place Value)

So, last week in Math we focused on Place Value. But we weren't focusing mainly on, Ones, Tens, Hundreds and Thousands, not even Millions! We were focusing on the numbers that come after a decimal. When most of us were pretty confident we started working on a DLO. 

The words can be weird to pronounce at first but then you get the hang of it. At first, learning this was kind of confusing because the Place Value order kind of goes in reverse and there is no Units or One's column!

As you can see in the first column after the decimal there is a 6, the 6 represents 6/10 
In the second column after the decimal, there is a 4, the 4 represents 4/100
In the third column after the decimal, there is a 1, the 1 represents 1/1000

Plants fall into two categories:

RESEARCH 4 TYPES OF PLANTS

Carnivorous plants
Pine trees 
Fruit trees
NZ Natives

Carnivorous plants

1. Carnivorous plants - Carnivorous plants are the type of plants that get their nutrients from trapping or consuming animals, (most likely insects like Grasshoppers, Flies, Spiders and maybe even Frogs!)

2. Pine trees - Pine trees are trees that are Evergreen. What are Pine trees used for? Pine wood is widely used in high-value carpentry items such as furniture, window frames, panelling, floors, and roofing.

Fruit trees3. Fruit trees - Fruit trees produce fruits either consumed by animals or humans. Some fruits are exotic fruits. The term 'fruit tree' is limited to those that provide fruit for human food.

NZ natives
4.One of the most commonly known NZ natives is obviously, the 'New Zealand Christmas tree'! Also known as 'Pōhutukawa'. The 'New Zealand Christmas tree' mainly grows in the North Island.

Habitat -  Where do they live? The most well-known carnivorous plant, the Venus flytrap, is not found here. In the wild, these plants are found only in North and South Carolina . Carnivorous plants often grow on very poor soils.

Country -  Sundew - Worldwide, especially South Africa and Australia. 

Butterwort - Mostly Nothern Hemisphere.

Bladderwort - Worldwide

 (It actually depends on what type of Carnivorous plant it is).

Climate - Carnivorous plants typically live in wet habitats that are open and sunny, with nutrient-poor soils.

Conclusion 
I enjoyed doing the research about the Climate, Country, Habitat and NZ Natives. I wish we do more work like this in the future. Even though we only have 2 more weeks of Science.
