Structure of Hurumanu 5 This Rotation

Hi! For hurumanu, we've been apart of PE & Maths (hurumanu 5) for over a term now. My class works with 2 other classes, Co and Wh.

Throughout the past 12 weeks, we've worked on multiple different things. One of the main thing's we have focused on is our pulse and heart rate. At the beginning of the 12 weeks, we did the beep test. After that, we did fitness circuits, running laps of the basketball court to see what our heart rate would be at the end. We also looked into our resting heart rate and our heart rate while we were doing activities. We did start the hurumanu off with doing a singular beep test but we have been practising by doing team beep tests but as our hurumanu is finally coming to an end we'll be doing another singular beep test today see how much we've improved.

On the other hand, we also worked on our math. Since our PE hurumanu also ties in with math we were learning about looking at the area of something. Whether it's the netball court or the basketball court. We got big measuring tapes, looked at the width and the length to see what the area is.

For volume, we also looked at the width and length, but,  what is volume? Volume is a book forming part of a work or series, the amount of space that a substance or object occupies, or that is enclosed within a container, loudness/quietness, and measurement of liquid. Volume is the amount of space an object takes up. We were given different places to measure so we could conclude the area and volume.

Our fitness circuits would be filled with all sorts of activities that we had to do for 1 minute. Burpees, shuttles, squats, sit-ups, box jumps, skipping, mountain climbers, push-ups, plus more, it was all there. We would have pieces of paper to write down our result. And every time I completed it I saw an improvement in my results.

Reflection

Personally, I really like hurumanu 5 this term. I got to try stuff I hadn't done before, such as the fitness circuit. One of my favourite things to do was the team beep test where there would be at least 4 in a team and they'd each take turns running.

Have you ever done the beep test before?

Beep Test - PE

Hey! This week we started a new Hurumanu. We have PE on Monday and Thursday. We also have groups that we have to work with for the rest of the Hurumanu! My group's name is "Cripsy Chicken", a little weird considering I don't eat meat. Anyways back to what we did.

On Monday, in our groups, we did the 4 different activities listed below!
- Vertical Jump
- Sit and Reach
- Sit-Ups
- Grip Test

Here are my results for each of the activities.

Vertical Jump - (M1) 1.9 (M2) 2.14
Sit and Reach - 24
Sit-Ups - 10
Grip Test - 6

I consider these pretty good results, not the best, could definitely improve but I tried my best. Next time we do this I have some strategies in mind which I could use!

On Thursday (Today) we did the Beep Test.
If you've done this test you know how challenging it is. People challenge themselves for 2 main reasons. People try to either beat their own score (if they've done it before) or they just try to get above level 5 to prove that they're "fit enough".

We do Fitness Training to prove how fit we are at certain things and to maybe compare at the end of the Hurumanu. But we could also do Fitness training because to get us ready for the Hurumanu. We need to know what's coming!

My results for each thing that we did this week are...

Vertical Jump - (M1) 1.9 (M2) 2.14

Sit and Reach - 24

Sit-Ups - 10

Grip Test - 6

Beep Test - Level 4 Stage 2

I feel like one of the areas I need to improve on is definitely on my Beep Test score. I would've liked to get above level 5 but I was pretty close and I'm not too upset about not reaching my goal.

I can reach my goal by practising whenever I get the time, for example at home! If I'm allowed I could also do the Beep Test with my brother at the park.

I worked successfully with others by cheering people who were a little behind during the Beep Test. On Monday I also encouraged my group members so they could achieve their best score.

My actions affected others whenever I cheered for them they had a face of concentration on their face. They always tried their best after receiving support from their peers.

I helped the people who were struggling by giving them advice, for example when people were doing the Sit and Reach I told them to sit straighter and stretch out their arms.
