Everyone is unique. All the people around you are unique! Here are some fun facts about the people close to me.
(My mum) 1. My mum used to be a teacher!
( My sister) 2. My sister is thinking of being a Speech & Therapy doctor.
( My dad) 3. My dad used to be a chef.
Do anyone of your close ones do the same thing?

Summer Learning Journey Prep 1
1. The name of the capital city is Ottawa.
2. The population of the capital city is 36.71 million people.
3.In January, the weather in the capital city is usually 35 degrees Celsius.
4.The capital city is located in the Southern Ontario.
5. The languages most commonly spoken in the capital city are English and French
Two fun facts!
Ottawa is the fourth largest city in Canada!
The Ottawa region welcomes more than 7.3 million visitors annually.
Why I would like to visit Canada!
I would actually love to go to Canada because it snows there every single year! In New Zealand it doesn't snow much except in the mountains. There isn't really another reason to be honest.

SLJ - Day 3: The More, the Merrier?
In the 1800's families were made up of seven to nine kids! What if you had nine siblings?
I have made a "Pros & Cons" list.
Pros:
I could always have someone there for me when I'm feeling down.
There could possibly always be a person to play with me when I'm bored.
I would never feel lonely.
If you were the oldest person out of all your siblings you would have more of an advantage over things.
Cons:
We would have fights over many things.
Jealousy, there would be jealousy over small things.
It would be kind of awful to be the oldest at sibling because the more younger siblings you get the more you will think that your parents are not starting to care about you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't exactly know how I would feel..but I would definitely wouldn't like to be the oldest even though the oldest could have an advantage.

SLJ - (Bonus Activity) Day 2: Special Meals
This is a picture of my favourite food. Pizza! No toppings for me please.
What is your favourite food?
SLJ - Day 2: The Rules of Engagement
These are my top 2 favourite dream jobs! You may be able to tell my MOST favourite one out of them both. What's your dream job? Can you tell what one my favourite is?
SLJ - Day 2: A House or a Home?
In the 1800's the Māori lived in pa's (villages) in the villages there were places for them to store food, cook food and sleep. The wharepuni (where they slept) were made of timber, fern, rushes and bark.
What are the two differences and two similarities between a wharepuni and my house?
Differences:
1. My house looks different from a wharepuni.
2. My house is made from different things.
Similarities:
1. You can sleep inside both, the wharepuni and my house.
2. My house and the wharepuni are both made from wood.

SLJ - (Bonus) Day One: Waka Ama
If someone ever asked me "Do you want to be a part of a Waka Ama race?" I would reject that person's offer. Rowing for like, hundreds of meters is hard work! No thank you. I never will like a sore arm.
Would you say "Yes!" if someone asked you to be a part of a Waka Ama race? Comment your thoughts!

SLJ - Day One: Setting Sail
Dear Merika,
Kia Ora, we have reached this beautiful, beautiful country. When I come to take you here I must warn you, it's a bit of a crazy ride. Some herbalism will do the trick.
Although like I said it's wonderful here, just worried about some wild animals attacking. Luckily you gave me the pouwhenua.
Haere rā.
SLJ - Day One: The First Settlers
The facts the I learnt about Maui are...
1. Maui wants to go fishing with his brothers.
2. Maui tricked his brothers in order to go fishing.
3. In the end, Maui caught a giant fish.

Summer Learning Journey 2019-2019 Prize
For the 6 week holidays this year and next year the Senior Syndicate have decided to take a part in the "Summer Learning Journey". The SLJ can help us improve our writing and reading.
The SLJ can even help even more! When you have long holidays, like 6 week holidays you tend to forget what you have learnt all year. It just floats out of your brain.
Then when you go to school your math, literacy and writing knowledge levels can drop. You don't want that to happen, why? You'll have to study the same thing again and you'll be on the same level as you were before. You would improve but in my opinion, not much.
This years and next years SLJ topic is about "Sustainability".
Mr.Breach's class has focused a lot on being sustain, even the big book we're reading this week is basically about "Sustainability"!
Being sustain means you take care of the environment around you, if you're picking up rubbish regularly then you are being sustain. You are taking care of your environment.
By doing the SLJ I can learn more about the world we are living in. I'm utterly excited for the upcoming challenges ready for me.
If I win a prize while doing the SLJ I would like...some David Walliam books or an iTunes gift card.

The Mysteries Of Giza - Information Report
For Literacy these past few weeks we have been working on information reports.
We could have done a information report about the Giza or extreme weathers. I personally liked the idea of doing a report about Giza since people have a lot of conspiracy theories about the place.

My Recount Story
This week for Literacy we have been learning to write recounts. We had to learn to put it in the correct
structure and language features. If you have any feedback please comment!

The First Time I Saw A Lion
About two years ago at my old school the Middle Syndicate, (Team Tui) decided to go on a trip to Orana
Park. We were mostly going to study the animals as part of our “Beasts Now Captured” research about
animals who had been locked up in cages at zoos.
The day was here and I was utterly excited! On a summer morning the bus appeared in the school car
park. I thought I was dreaming. I had been waiting to see a lion all my life.
The bus ride to the zoo was longer than I expected. Team Tui sang songs on the way but obviously we
got bored after a while. I saw fields of grass and paddocks with horses and cows on the way. I couldn’t
wait anymore!
After a hour or so we were finally there! I had never been more excited. As soon as we got there a lady
who worked there (let’s call her Lily) welcomed us and showed us where we would be eating morning
tea.
Afterwards when we had all finished eating we got split into groups. In my group we went to visit the
tortoise first. We went in the room near us.
Did you know..that a group of tortoises is called a creep?
My group all sat down and waited for the tortoise to be handed to us. The tortoise got handed to me last.
I loved him! His little black eyes had a tiny, tiny sparkle in them. Ah, I wish I had his eyes.
Finally, we got to where the lions were! Sometimes when you imagine a lion do you imagine a lion with
a mane? I do. These lions did not have manes because they were male lions and they would fight over
who’s was thicker and bigger.
The lions were laying down when we got there, they all looked lazy. I tried to find some cubs, but
unfortunately I couldn’t find any. They were with their mums in the other room.
Did you know..that male lions don’t hunt, the females do?
After that, all the groups got together where the otters were. I found my friends, we talked about our
favourite animals that we saw today.
I loved my trip to the zoo, especially seeing the lions. I’d love to go again and see different animals.

Free Writing
Hey! This week we had choices to do for writing, we could do free writing and we could do some Would You Rather stories. So I decided to do free writing.
This is my version of "Alice In Wonderland"

Would You Rather...
For Literacy we had to do an activity where we choose a would you rather question. We had to present it in someway, I decided to show on a Infrographic (Piktochart.)
You also had to say what you would rather do and then you had to explain yourself.
So this is mine!
So this is mine!

Narratives, Characters and Questions
This term for Literacy we are focusing on the narratives, the characters and the questions.
Narrative
From my prior knowledge I know that a narrative is a story, a story that is fiction (not real.)
Characters
I also know that characters in stories have names, have personalities, and that when people read stories to someone that person could could describe one of the characters a "Main characters."
Questions
Now, for the questions I understand some of it..like, we have to ask questions before and after we have read the text.
If you are ever with a teacher and they ask you to do this, you could ask questions about the illustrations and the book.
So, if you know more about this topic please comment!

Science Change
This past term we have been doing Science, in science we learnt all about change, reactants, products and how they are formed.
Thursday, September 20, 2018
Science - Predicting.
Today at Science we did an experiment, but before we did the experiment on a document we had to predict what was going to happen. Our teachers showed us the reactants (vinegar and baking soda.) We also had to predict what the product and the chemical reaction was going to be.
My guess spot on since I've seen these types of experiments before.

Calendar Art
For calendar art this week we have been learnt to blend colours with paint.
I really enjoyed painting but I found it difficult to get crisp lines.
First we sketch an outline, then we started at the top and worked down.
Please comment if you have any feedback!

Science On A Thursday
Every week we do Science on a Thursday. We are mainly focusing on change. Change that happens in science when 2 reactants mix, when those two have been mixed in some kind of way you have a product.

My Summer Acrostic Poem
For Literacy we have been doing poems about 2 weeks ago we started to do Acrostic poems, out of my five that I wrote this one is my favorite. This is about Summer.
If you have any feed-back feel free to comment!
My Netball Poem
This is my Netball poem.
For literacy we have been writing types of poems. Every week a teacher introduces a new type of poem to us, some are hard and some are not. Last week we started writing Cinquain poems. Here is my Netball one.
I chose to do one about Netball because I play Netball every Friday we call it "Winter Sports"
If you have any feed-back then please comment.

Anthology
For the past 2-3 we have been write types of poems.
So far in my anthology I have 3 types of poems, limericks, acrostics and triplet poems and i'm currently working on a Cinquain poem.
All are quite challenging but the hardest for me were the Limericks.
PLEASE view my anthology, much appreciated :)

Chemical Reaction - Elephant Toothpaste
Today for Science we did an experiment called Elephant Toothpaste.
This Google Drawing shows what we did.
The hardest part as usual was to make sure the labels go in the right place, like Product, Reactant.

Science
Changes happens when we mix or combine two different reactants (substances) together. When this happens a chemical reaction takes place. Our teacher got four ingredients, baking soda, baking powder, water and vinegar. He mixed the baking soda and baking powder together..the product was gas (Carbon Dioxide) . Then he mixed baking powder and vinegar and it made noises such as, fizzing and pooping.

Celebrations
For Celebrations we had been split in to 3 groups, Food, Visual Arts and Myths & Legends. I chose to be in Myths & Legends. Angie and I were in a group, we had to choose a story from a specific country or specific people. We chose to do Native American. In the story there were 2 main characters Lightning and Thunder. Since we weren't allowed to use digital photos they had to be drawn onto a piece of paper. Since I am not a very good at drawer, Angie did the drawing. In total she did 6 drawings. The hardest part was to draw... mainly Angie did the drawing
but I still helped.
but I still helped.

Badges
Since South Hornby School is a new school there are new values and a new mascot, which we call Wonder Weka. Our teacher, Mr.Breach said that we need new badges too, everyone was excited.
We work in buddies of 3..but since their weren't enough people it was just me and my friend.
Me and my buddy searched up wow words,
We liked the word "Golden". We made 3, one was our mixed idea one, and then we made our own different ideas.
My and my buddy decided that this badge represent our present badge called "Trusted Kid"
It is very hard to get that badge, but "Leader Badge" is the hardest.
Since, there are year 4,5 and 6's in our class, it isn't actually fair because only year 5 and 6's can get "Trusted Kid" badges. So "Golden Kid" will be for year 4,5 and 6's.

Measurements
For our strand Maths we have been looking at measurement.
We have learnt that 1 metre equals 100 cm and that there are 1000 metres in a kilometer.
We have also learned how to measure objects around our school.
The most challenging thing about measuring is to get the position right, specially when they are different heights.
The activity I enjoyed most was getting to go outside and measuring whatever we like because we could measure anything we wanted.
My group measured 2 little fan things and it was pretty long/wide. This measurement can also be written as 243cm.

Focus
Lately we have been focusing on Focus, there is a chart in our Class and on the chart are 4 colours.
Green, the lowest level of focus..Red, the second lowest level of focus and Orange, the second highest level of focus and finally Blue, the highest level of focus. Currently there are a lot of people in Orange and a couple in Blue. The first day we put our names on it we got to choose where we think were at, some people put themselves in blue..but then later on realized they should be in either Orange or Red.

My Celebration - Birthday at My House
My family celebrates every birthday basically the same, but my birthday is WAY more nicer than anyone else’s in my family..so wanna know more? Let’s go!
Morning - As soon as I wake up my sister or my mum come to say “Happy birthday!” They ask me what I want for breakfast and because I'm an unhealthy child I ask for fast food hehe.
Afternoon - After breakfast my mum sends me and my brother to the park so she can surprise me.To be honest it's the same surprise every year, I’ve told her to change it up a bit but she just laughs and says “Haha,It is different every year don’t you notice? Different balloons and a different cake.”
Nearly Evening - After at the park for nearly 2 hours she comes and gets us.THEN this is the part that puts me off EVERYTIME...she make us wait..more. After 25 to 30 minutes she finally invites me inside. There are balloons on the ground everywhere.
7pm (Night) - my cousins come over and we just play Truth or Dare in my room. We order tons of Pizza because who doesn’t love pizza? Most of the times the pizza is way to much for us to eat so we just give some out to random people.
The best parts are handing pizza out and taking a day off! Even though Mr.Breach hates it,I personally love it. I can basically do whatever I want. Anyways that’s my birthday!
